The name SPELD stands for SPEcific Learning Difficulties

SPELD SA is a non profit organisation that provides advice and services to children and adults with specific learning difficulties and those who care for, teach, and work with them.

SPELD SA was founded in 1969.

SPELD SA is run by a council, whose members include parents, teachers, accountants, lawyers, psychologists, optometrists, doctors, speech pathologists and other interested professionals.

SPELD SA receives an annual grant from the Minister for Education and Children's Services and is also reliant on donations from the public.
